Sensors Overview
By utilizing leading-edge technologies such as magnetic, piezoelectric, and micro-electrical mechanical systems (MEMS), Hitachi offers a comprehensive line of sensor devices (accelerometers,
digital compass and magnetic encoders). Our impressive line of sensors includes giant magneto-resistive (GMR) sensors and a complete line
of accelerometers. We have recently introduced the world's smallest digital accelerometer sensor.

Accelerometer Sensors
Accelerometer sensors (MEMS) have the ability to sense a digital unit that is in freefall and in turn respond with disk drive lock down resulting in a protective state and avoiding any sustainable
damage. The applications for such a unique sensor include digital cameras, laptops, hand-held computer games, camcorders and anything portable with a hard disk drive. Accelerometers
are also used to detect acceleration in navigation and traffic control systems, in sensors for motion measurement and security systems.

Magnetic Encoders
Hitachi Metals developed and is manufacturing a series of magnetic encoders based on magneto-resistive (MR) and giant magneto-resistive (GMR) materials. These encoders offer precise position indication under harsh and dirty environment and are suitable for a variety of rotary and linear applications, such as camera, industrial automation and control. The GMR encoders are available in both 20um and 40um pitches.
